Our Story

Honey Grove is a four-generation beekeeping family.

Our story starts in the 1920s, when our family left Scotland, from just outside Edinburgh, and came to Chicago. They brought their bees with them. In the 1940s, during World War II, the family kept hives at Midway Airport.

The work has passed from one generation to the next. My great-grandfather and grandfather kept bees together. My father and I kept them together. For years we were the beekeepers for Wild Blossom Meadery & Winery here in Chicago. I've kept bees for 15 years, and my son is now the fifth generation of our family in honey production.

Today we run Honey Grove from our own hives in the Chicago area. We sell honey at farmers markets across the city and suburbs, and online. Our Chicago Gold and Chicago Farm honeys come straight from our hives. We source our other varieties from trusted beekeepers elsewhere and tell you where each one comes from.

Come find us at a market and taste the difference. Check our Events page for where we'll be.
